Why Choose Our Carp?
Our fish have gone out to the wild and regularly grow by 3lb to 8lb per summer, this weight gain is very much dependant on how much food is available, the quality of the natural food or the supplement feed that is put in front of them.
Our Carp for sale on the farm have been initially fed on Brine Shrimp for their first feed they then go out into a fertilised farm pond where they eat Rotifer and Daphnia ensuring they get the natural nutrients they need for a good start in life.
Once they have eaten the natural food in the pond they get weaned on to a high protein, high vitamin and mineral diet which is specially formulated to get the optimum growth out of a small fish. When the fish are small they have the ability to digest higher protein pellets (45% – 50%) to enable them to grow much faster than an adult fish. This is nature’s way of allowing the Carp to get beyond the size of a predators prey.
Once the fish has reached a certain size (4”-6”) their digestion starts to change and they are now unable to digest such high levels of protein. At this stage the diet is changed to a lower protein diet of around 35% – 40%. As the Carp grows bigger it becomes less efficient at converting food eaten to weight gained.
For example 2017’s conversion on 1lb-2lb Carp was around 1300-1400kg of feed to produce 1000kg of Carp, as the fish got bigger 3lb-6lb the conversion rate went out to around 1600-1800kg of feed to produce 1000kg of Carp.
This is why when you are buying quality Farmed Carp you are paying a premium because of the meticulous process they have been through to achieve the highest of quality.
By using these methods to produce our Carp you the customer gets peace of mind that the fish have been produced on site and have traceability from fry to fish, so the only time the fish have seen wild conditions is when they get introduced into your pond/lake.
You can be rest assured the fish you are stocking are disease free young Carp that will live a long happy life providing the environment is right.
